Dr Mayilvahanan Natarajan

u Dr. MAYIL NATARAJAN is the Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon at M.N. Orthopaedic Hospital, Chennai. He is a Sr.Consultant at Apollo Speciality Hospital and Apollo First Med Hospital, Chennai.

u He is an Orthopaedic Surgeon recognized for his pioneering work in Orthopaedic Oncology. He introduced the concept of Limb Salvage Surgery by Custom Mega Prosthesis as early as 1988 initiated at the Cancer Institute Adyar and Orthopaedic Dept. of Govt. General Hospital.

u He established Orthopaedic Oncology as a Sub-Specialty in Orthopaedic Surgery in India. His personal series of 2284 cases of Custom Mega Prosthesis in 34 years (1988 to 2022) are the largest number by a single surgeon in the world.

u He has designed and invented 8 Patented Prosthesis and 15 Prosthetic Designs have been registered in the Official Gazette of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, Government of India

u The technique was accepted by the Orthopaedic fraternity and currently 20 States in India are following the Indigenously made Custom Mega Prosthesis.

u He has been awarded the Ph.D in 2000 and D.Sc. in 2004 by The Tamil Nadu   Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. He has been decorated with the D.Sc. (Hon. Causa) by the Medical University and the Madras University in due recognition of his tireless dedication to the cause of Bone Tumour Patients.

u  He has authored 9 Books and Edited 11 Chapters in Textbooks.  He has published 20 papers in peer reviewed International Journals and 26 papers in National Journals.  He has delivered 213 Guest Lectures in International, National and State Conferences.  He has been the recipient of 15 International & National Fellowships and has given 29 Orations in various Conferences.

u He has received 3 National Awards from the President of India, Shri A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. (1) Dr. B. C. Roy National Award (2004). (2) National Award for Welfare of the Disabled (2005). (3) Padma Shri Award (2007).

u Internationally, he was the first Indian to be the President of the Asia Pacific Musculoskeletal Tumour Society. The Royal College Surgeons of England conferred the Fellowship of the College on him (2009). The British Orthopaedic Association honoured him with the Honorary Fellowship (2006).
