PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
45 years experience in Surgical practice, both General and Cardio-thoracic and Vascular surgery. 41 years in Cardiac surgery, in India and abroad.

In General surgery vast experience both in residency as well as in teaching capacity in premier Medical Schools in India in management of emergency and planned general surgical procedures.
Worked in Cardiothoracic surgery both in India and U.K. and later as Cardiac Surgeon at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Saudi Arabia. Since 1995 as Chief of Cardiac surgery, in private practice in Chennai, India.

Have assisted or done over 25000+ pump cases including 800+ reoperations and over 750 closed heart and thoracic and vascular procedures, in various capacities in the last 45 years.

Extensive experience in
Coronary Artery Surgery, particularly in beating heart (OPCAB) procedures, Re-do coronary surgery, CAB in left ventricular dysfunction, LAST procedures

Valvular Heart Surgery: Valve surgery experience includes mechanical and bioprosthetic valve replacements and closed mitral commissurotomies, vast exposure to valve conservation procedures, homograft implantation, Ross procedure and aortic valve reconstruction with autologous tissue.

Surgery for Congenital Heart disease: Extensive experience in infant and paediatric open heart procedures including, open cardiac procedures for septal defect closures,Tetrology of Fallot correction, AVSD repairs, arterial switches, Fontan type procedures, Pulmonary atresia corrections and other complex congenital anomalies. Have carried out for infants and newborns patent ductus closures, palliative procedures including shunts and bandings

Thoracic organ Transplantation: Good experience in cardiac and heart lung transplantation acquired both in UK and Saudi Arabia. Involved in both donor and recipient operations. Experienced in insertion and management of artificial heart and ventricular assist devices. Very involved in the management of post transplant patients and anti-rejection protocols. Involved in cardiomyoplasty programme and arrhythmia surgery.

Pulmonary and esophageal surgery: Active practice in lung resections, tracheal surgery and esophageal resection and reconstructions.

Surgery of Great vessels and vascular surgery: including aortic root, arch replacements under deep hypothermic circulatory arrest, aneurysm repairs with left heart bypass.

Surgery for cardiac failure: well versed in use of OPCAB, undersized mitral ring annuloplasty, left ventricular geometrical remodeling procedures . Experienced in use of External counterpulsation both as an adjunct and as a substitute for surgery for heart failure.

Autologous Stem Cells in ischemic heart disease: Have carried out clinical implantation of stem cells in ischemic hearts and in failing hearts.

Management of Intensive Care patients: Have actively been involved in Intensive Care of post bypass patients including Cardiac and Heart-Lung Transplants and paediatric open heart and congenital heart patients for over 37 years.

Experienced in support of the acutely failing hearts and multi organ dysfunctional patients. Actively involved in cardio-pulmonary, renal and hepatic support systems as well as ECMO and plasma exchange procedures

TEACHING:
As tutor in general surgery and later in cardiothoracic surgery, have conducted clinical and theory classes for undergraduates and postgraduates. From Madras Medical College and Tanjore Medical College, India
Have taken classes for Royal College nurses while in the UK.
Given lectures to Critical Care Nurses on various clinical and basic science topics.
Invited Lecturer in cardiological topics and has delivered orations at
